CAA: Economic regulation of capacity expansion at Heathrow: policy update and consultation
On 29th May 2019, the CAA published a policy update and further consultation (CAP1782) on the economic regulation of capacity expansion at Heathrow. This consultation will run until May 24th 2019. It is a follow-on document to CAP1722 published in October 2018 and both documents may be seen here.
Aviation 2050: green paper consultation period extended
On 1st March 2019, the DfT extended the Aviation 2050 green paper consultation period until 20th June 2019. Further details may be seen here.

CAA publishes General Aviation Strategy: 2018-23
On 29th January 2019, the CAA published CAP1754 – General Aviation Strategy 2018-23. The updated strategy compliments Government and wider CAA strategy and is aimed at supporting General Aviation in the UK. The document can be seen here.
‘Aviation 2050’ – Government consultation published: 17th December 2018

Airspace Modernisation Strategy published: 17th December 2018
On 17th December 2018, the UKCAA launched its Airspace Modernisation Strategy. The document (CAP1711) plus additional information can be seen here.
ITF document: Government Support Measures for Domestic Air Connectivity
The International Transport Forum (ITF) has just published a report which reviews government support measures for domestic air connectivity in selected member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The report was commissioned by the UK Department for Transport and can be seen here.
SASIG Chair Invited onto UK Airspace Strategy Board
Chairman of SASIG, Cllr Keith Artus has been invited by the Department for Transport to sit on the newly formed UK Airspace Strategy Board, a new high level forum which is charged with oversight of the future direction of airspace policy and will be chaired by Minister for Aviation Baroness Sugg. Meetings will be held twice-yearly in April and October. The first meeting of the Board is taking place on 25th October.
The appointment is further recognition of the importance Whitehall attaches to SASIG’s work and will allow local authority views to be heard at the highest levels of governance steering future airspace development in the UK.

Airports National Policy Statement
On June 5th 2018, the Government published the Airports National Policy Statement. Details of the Statement can be seen here and other supporting documents and materials here. Following a Cabinet Meeting on the issue, the Secretary of State for Transport also made a statement in Parliament about the proposed expansion at Heathrow, which can be seen here.
DfT Publishes Next Steps on UK Aviation Strategy
The Government has published its response to the calls for evidence for the new Aviation Strategy being developed for the UK. The response titled ‘Beyond the Horizon – The future of UK Aviation: next steps towards an Aviation Strategy’ can be found below together with an accompanying letter from Baroness Sugg.
