A legal challenge against an increase in the number of flights at London City Airport opened at the Royal Courts of Justice on 18 November 2010. The London Borough of Newham granted permission in 2008 for a 50% increase in flights at the airport from 80,000 to 120,000 movements a year, which is now being challenged by local campaign group Fight the Flights.

Fight the Flights was set up by residents in Newham and its surrounding Boroughs and is represented by the Friends of the Earth’s Rights and Justice Centre. The case was presented on 18 and 19 November 2010 and a decision is expected at the end of 2010 or early 2011.
