Delta Airlines has confirmed that both European and US regulators have approved the airline’s application to fly into Heathrow from Boston and Miami. It will be using the Heathrow slots that American Airlines (AA) and British Airways (BA) were required to surrender in order to get approval of their transatlantic joint venture.
The airline plans to start year round flights on both routes on 27 March 2011, when it launches its summer schedule, with flight schedules and fares to be announced by the end of November 2010. Four flights will leave from Boston, five from Miami, each week.
The new routes will be operated within Delta’s transatlantic joint venture with Air France-KLM and Alitalia. Delta began serving Heathrow in March 2008 after the Open Skies agreement between the United States and the European Union.
