Gatwick Airport is now sitting on the Board of a new group with the aim of tackling climate change. West Sussex County Council and partners have developed the West Sussex Environment and Climate Change Board with the intention of bringing together significant organisations from all sectors to meet climate change and environmental objectives. The Board was officially launched on 23 September 2010.

Vice-Chairman of the Board, Deborah Urquhart, stated that the group will initially be focusing on four key themes – low carbon and energy, green economy and skills, environmental resilience, and sustainable transport and infrastructure. This project will concentrate on green issues in West Sussex and increasing sustainability in the area.

The Board intends to meet regularly with the next meeting scheduled to take place in the late autumn.

Other organisations and businesses currently sitting on the Board alongside Gatwick Airport include Gatwick Diamond, English Heritage, the Environment Agency, the Forestry Commission, and the Government Office for the South East.
