Work has started on installing two wind turbines at East Midlands Airport. The turbines are part of the commitment to make group operations carbon neutral by 2012 and are due to be operational in March 2011. They will produce about 5% of the airport’s electricity, will stand 45 metres high and the rotor blades will have a radius of about 14 metres. The airport received planning permission to install a total of four wind turbines in 2008, to be located on site next to its offices.
