Ryanair has reclaimed its position as the biggest operator at Liverpool John Lennon Airport in passenger numbers from Easyjet.
Easyjet during the first quarter of 2010 maintained its lead over Ryanair with a 14.1% increase in passenger numbers, compared with 9.1% for Ryanair respectively. However, the volcanic ash crisis and the closure of UK airspace took a greater impact on Easyjet and the airline saw passenger numbers decline by 12.9% for the second quarter. Ryanair during this period witnessed a 4% increase in passenger numbers.
From this point onwards Ryanair continued to see a growth in passenger numbers and in August 2010 Ryanair managed to record the highest level of passengers carried by an airline in the airport’s history, with 267,413 customers, compared with 249,518 on Easyjet flights.
So far this year, Ryanair has carried a total of 2.08 million passengers at Liverpool, compared with Easyjet’s total of 1.95 million.
