British Airways carried 3.9% more passengers in October 2010 compared with last year, its fastest growth over two years, helped by continuing growth in premium travel and demand for short-haul flights rebounding. The airline carried 2.95 million passengers last month, up on the 2.76 million in October 2009. However, its load factor fell 1 percentage point to 79.8%.

First and business-class travel rose 4.6%, while non-premium traffic was up 3.7%. British Airways’ (BA) first and business-class traffic has risen steadily in recent months as companies that cut travel costs during the recession increasingly return to premium seats. All regions showed growth in traffic.

Overall capacity increased 5.2%, outstripping the traffic gain and reducing the load factor 1 percentage point to 79.8%. Cargo, measured in Cargo Tonne Kilometres (CTK), rose by 6.8%.
