Liverpool John Lennon Airport has reported a record loss of £8.84 million in the year to March 2010. The hub made the pre-tax losses on a turnover of £31.1 million in comparison with the last financial year to March 2009 when it made a loss of just £1.32 million on a turnover that was£270,000 greater.

Passenger numbers fell by 1% to 5.1 million during the period, although monthly falls were reversed from November 2009. Since then it has recorded nine year-on-year increases in 11 months, with only the disruption from the volcanic ash problem in April 2010 and May 2010 preventing continuous passenger growth.

In June 2010, Peel Group sold 65% of Peel Airports, of which Liverpool accounts for a majority, to Canadian group Vancouver Airport Services for £110 million.
